DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE WITH YOUR INSTAGRAM BIO

Before launching your Instagram Account to the world, there are several steps you want to complete and they begin right in the introduction to your account. Your bio! Read on to find out mistakes made within Instagram Bios. Follow these steps and you will have people discover your account before you know it!

USERNAME (15 characters)
This should be recognizable and if possible, try to keep it consistent across the various platforms you are on. This will allow people to find you more easily on your social media networks. Use your business name or real name. I use @deeboswell_buck... not @socialmediamaven. If your username choice is taken, do what I did... add an underscore or number.

Name (30 characters)
Did you know the NAME field contained searchable data? People make the mistake of putting their name in this area. Instead put in words that your brand is about. You can see I have used the words Social Media Strategy Smallbiz. "social media" pulled me up as #9 in the Instagram search. And smallbiz is a popular hashtag used almost 1.5 million times.

DESCRIPTION - BIO (150 characters)
Now it's time to show some personality. First state what it is YOU do. Add something personal if you wish and fit in your niche hashtags. These hashtags are clickable so you want to make sure they are relevant to your business and not broad. I have #smtips (55k post) and #InstagramMarketing (136k posts)

PROFILE PHOTO
Now this is where you should always practice consistency. Your profile image should be the same across all of your social media platforms. Your bio photo is your logo.

INSTAGRAM: ARE YOU MISSING OPPORTUNITES?

Visit any of my 9 social media platforms and you will find that I have a true love for Instagram. Right now Instagram is a fantastic opportunity for business owners to reach their  niche target audience, follow them and have them follow you back.

You can use Instagram to funnel other Instagramers back to your website, blog, landing page or online store. You can use it as an opportunity to collect email addresses, and share information about your brand or company. Instagram is filled with impactful images. However if you are a business owner or a blogger, you know that you need some sort of engagement to reach your goals.

In one year, Instagram helped me to increase my website page views from 130 to over 4400 per month.

For the next 4 weeks I have decided to share with you best practices when using Instagram. As I scroll through various accounts I see some great content partnered with missed opportunities. Unfortunately I also see some not so great content.

I would love to know what are your struggles on Instagram? Do you have goals that you wish to achieve through Instagram? I invite you to post your thoughts in the comments below. I'll share my tips and perhaps use an example or two in my upcoming Instagram posts.
