What is the name of your business and what inspired you
App Ur Service – I wanted a way to take my consultation, design and project management skills, I have acquired working for others over the last 25 years and use them to propel myself forward while supporting underserved communities in the technology space.
Diversity and inclusion are always important goals for us and a mobile ecosystem is no different. I want to make sure we open the doors to give access, so everyone can ‘speak the language’ and can thrive in our technology based world.
Tell us about your business
Stats show that 79% of smartphone users check their phones within 15 minutes of waking up each day. We offer multi-lingual, mobile solutions for individuals and business that are interested in creating an ongoing relationship with their target customer base, by offering flexible applications that meet customers where they are (on their phones) and digital media plans that will keep them hooked.
We have templated options for a variety of industries such as, hotels, restaurants, real estate, clubs, schools, etc. at a fraction of the cost of developing an application from scratch.
Where is your business located?
We have two offices: One located in Toronto, Ontario and another one in Cabarete, Domincan Rebublic.
Who is your target audience? Why would they benefit from your service?
Our target audience is really everyone who feels they can benefit from building a better online presence for themselves or their business. But specifically, we are here for folks who have a limited budget, knowledge and time to become experts in the online marketing world.

How do you effectively raise awareness of your business and getting new clients?
At App Ur Service it is important we walk the talk. We have our own mobile ecosystem, that consists of a website, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook pages. We refresh our content on a regular basis to create dialog with our customer base to find out what their pain points are. And we actively engage in discussions with possible clients to understand their needs and come up with creative, agile solutions.
How do you stand out from your competitors?
Our years of business consultation experience, adult learning design and agile project management all come together to offer our clients robust solutions, that are well designed and deliver value as soon as possible with a small investment.

Do you have certifications, awards and accomplishments that have been attained for your business?
I am certified in Adult Learning and online design, and I have won two awards for innovation based on application design. Our Director of Digital Media department is certified in Social Media and Digital Strategy.
What are the two toughest challenges that you face as a business owner and how have you over come them?
Transitioning from working for someone else to working for yourself requires constant commitment and hustle. Staying motivated when there is so much to be done can be overwhelming. I combat it by staying organized, creating small goals for myself and taking things one day at a time. It gives me a way to check in and feel good about my progress or identify what barriers could be in my way, so I can pivot. Staying connected to other up and coming entrepreneurs who share your work ethic can also be a great motivator.
Finding others that are just as committed to your vision. Without a large brand behind you for name recognition or a huge monetary incentive, it can be a struggle to find clients and employees who are willing to take a chance on a start-up. Pitching based on need and recruiting based on passion is how I work past it. I use my operational experience in various industries to highlight for clients how our solutions can help them. I recruit employees based on their work ethic and passion for what they are doing, so it feels less like work and more like an extension of their hobbies.
What advice would you share to entrepreneurs?
Start small, fail fast and learn from it. No one’s journey is without issues and upsets but don’t be afraid to just get out there and introduce your ideas to the world. Starting small gives you time to refine based on what customers tell you. Consider it a process and prepare to get used to the unknown. At the same time enjoy the freedom or working when you want and where you want.
