Have you ever come across a piece of content that perfectly conveys something you want to say?
It could be something lighthearted or it could be something more serious in tone, either way, it perfectly articulates a message you want to share. (Full disclosure, I've done it myself, and why not? Tik Tok and Instagram a full of gems!) So you re-post it and watch the engagement on the post blow up. But wait, did you forget a step? Did you remember to credit the creator? You may think it’s not a big deal but it is. I came across an article on blkcreatives.com that summed up why you should credit the creator. ✔️ Creators work really hard on their stuff ✔️ Social media is their marketing tool ✔️ Crediting shows appreciation of their work ✔️ Their work is documenting history ✔️ It could be their big break I paraphrased a bit but you get the idea. So how do you credit creators properly? On most social media platforms you can use mentions, hashtags or links. How to Create A Mention In the comment section of the post, simply add @ before the username of the person you want to mention. For example @blkcreatives It only takes a few seconds but that recognition goes a long way. So go ahead and re-post, re-purpose, and re-mix but always give the creator the credit they’re due.
