Spring has finally sprung! It's the time of year when we remove the clutter, polish things up and add a bit of maintenance. Today I am writing about Spring Cleaning our social media accounts. Thankfully this can be done in a few hours as opposed to a few weeks. Before you get started, you will want to reevaluate all of your social media accounts and decide which you utilize most, where your target audience is and where you will commit to long-term.

Here are 6 Spring Cleaning tips for small business owners to apply to their social media accounts.

1.  Update Your Profile
  • Update your bio with your target audience in mind and remember to tailor it so it adapts to each platform you're on
  • Be sure to use the same profile photo and avatar across all platforms
  • Update your cover photos
  • Change your pinned status
  • Make sure your contact information is updated (email, broken links, phone number, business address)

2.  Redefine Your Goals
  • Create a strong social media strategy that ties in with what your customer needs. No goals or strategies, will not establish ROI
  • Lose the clutter... unfollow those bot accounts and the accounts you followed to get the latest promo
  • Follow your niche audience or the businesses you find value with.
  • Verify metrics and measure your progress to ensure you are on track with your goal setting.
  • Go over your insights and review the same period you did for posting frequency. Evaluate where you're getting the greatest ROI
  • Check your insights and analytics so you can stay on track to reach your goals
  • Find out who your content is resonating with and if you are you connecting with your target audience

3.  Look at Your Top Three Competitors
  • For a competitive analysis or some inspiration, research your competition
  • Just starting out? Investigate reputable brands you admire and that share your similar values
  • Take this opportunity to learn from others. Scrolling through their feeds helps to provide the vision you need to spiff up your social media marketing

4.  Use a Content Calendar
  • Get organized by setting up a monthly content calendar with content ready to be posted
  • Schedule time daily for social media
  • Some platforms like Facebook have their own tools which will allow you to schedule in advance

5.  Update Your Social Buttons
  • Confirm that your site has buttons to your social media accounts
  • Verify if they are working properly

6.  Security Changes
  • If your password is 123456 or you have had the same password since the year Facebook started, it is time to change it
  • Change your password at least once per year to prevent being hacked
  • Staff come and go and with different roles. Update the admin rights on your social media periodically to keep your accounts safe

Maintaining an up to date social media presence is very important for business. Always remember to make sure it is current and always represents your brand.
